You are who you are for a reason….
by Russell Kelfer

You are who you are for a reason.
You’re part of an intricate plan.
You’re a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God’s special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb.
You’re just what He wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones He chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God’s plan in mind,
And they bear the Master’s seal.

No, that trauma you faced was not easy.
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into His likeness you’d grow.

You are who you are for a reason,
You’ve been formed by the Master’s rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!

Russell Kelfer (1933-2000) was an elder and Bible teacher at Wayside Chapel in San Antonio, Texas for more than 20 years. During his life time he was active in a broad variety of Christian projects ranging from education to a World’s Fair pavilion. His legacy of practical application Bible studies, poems, and fictional stories know no denominational boundaries.

  2. Hi susan, thanks for the visit to my blog. Its been a long while & I’ve been going through a depression time.As yo wouldve noticed in my latest blog!!!But this poem really lifted me up and the word’s “The Master’s Hand” always give me a lump in my throat. But I have something also to share with of similar writing & subject. When my 5yr old Daniel was born, a sister in the church gave me a card with these words written:
    JUST THINK (BY Roy Lessin)
Your SON is here not by chance,
    but by God’s choosing
    His Hand formed him
and made him the person he is.
God compares him to no-one else–
he is one of a kind.
    Your son will lack nothing
that God’s grace can’t give him.
God has allowed your son to be here
    at this time in history
    to fulfill His special purpose
    for this generation.

I thought I might share this with you. thanks again for the comment on my blog. Its really encouraging when others leave comments cause it gives a boost and makes you want to keep going.
    God bless.
