A typical day starts with me getting up before everyone else to spend about 45 minutes with the Lord in prayer and in the Word. Then I shower and get ready (which, unfortunately, takes too much of my morning!), then I get the kids up and start breakfast while they are getting ready for the morning and spending 15 minutes in prayer and reading the Word (they are ages 8 and 9).
We start homeschool at 9:00 with prayer, pledge of allegiance, and Bible class. From there they start on their workbooks for English, phonics and math while I work on whatever my main chore for the day is. *Mon.= cleaning the house
*Tues.= laundry and ironing
*Wed.= plant care inside and out and preparing for children’s church for that evening’s church service
*Thurs.= making lesson plans and meal menu for upcoming week as well as shopping list
*Fri.= no homeschool on this day so I can go grocery shopping and get errands done around town, as well do a quick tidy of the house before the weekend starts
At 11:00 I call the kids in from a break and we do history (first half of the year; science other half of the year). Then they are off to read on their own for 30 minutes until lunch.
After lunch a homeschooling friend and I take turns doing elective classes with our combined five kids.
*Mon.= she teaches them all Spanish
*Tues.= I supervise karate with the boys using the “Homeschool Karate” DVDs.
*Wed.= she teaches them all art
*Thurs.= I supervise ballet with the girls using a DVD called “I’m A Ballerina Now”.
We usually give all the kids about 30 minutes to play together after the elective class is over.
School ends at 2:00 and at that point I’m working on whatever projects or responsibilities that need attention. I start making dinner at 5:00 and usually by 6:00 or so dinner is done and cleared away. We spend as many evenings home together as a family as possible. Or we go out and do things as a family. Oftentimes each of us is simply enjoying our own form of leisure time, but sometimes we do things together. Wednesday night is our church service.
I try to have the kids in bed by 9:00 so I can have an hour for myself to read or unwind, or to spend alone time with my husband. I’m pretty much done by 10:00. I get too tired to stay up any later than that.
After saying all that, not everyday follows this routine perfectly. I’m a fairly structured and organized person, but I’m not a stickler. I have days where my house is a wreck and the schedule goes haywire. But I do my best to stick to this schedule, and for the most part it works very well for us.

Follow my link to a story I wrote a few years ago when I was asked to share a typical day in our house with a Homeschool Group.
Now, we do school all over the house. The younger ones stay with me down stairs at the kitchen table while the older ones spread out to find quiet places to work. We try to begin around 9:00 and end by 2:00…but that is just a suggestion most of the time. We have learned to roll with the punches of our day and do as much as we can, letting the Holy Spirit lead us through.
